Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Autism Spectrum Disorder

An Autism Spectrum Assessment with children typically involves 3-4 hours of direct client contact (ADOS-2 administration and Cognitive Testing) and 2-3 hours of Intake and Clinical Diagnostic Interviews with parents/caregivers, and completion of intake forms and behavioural/clinical measures. As part of the assessment, further collateral information is obtained form the child's school through completion of Teacher Questionnaires (clinical/behavioural measures and review of school records). The entire assessment (including interviews, testing, scoring, document reviews, formulation, feedback, and clinical report writing) may take approx. 18-22 hours to complete.

A Cognitive-Developmental Assessment is a smaller assessment which is recommended for very young children (under age 6 years) who do not present with obvious traits of autism but parents and teachers have concerns regarding their cognitive, language, motor, or social development. While it will screen for presence of autism, it will not be diagnostic. This assessment will evaluate your child's language and motor skills, cognitive abilities, sensory-motor functioning, and social-emotional functioning and development (e.g., social skills and mood and anxiety issues, etc.).

The assessment typically involves 2-3 hours of direct contact, observations and testing with your child and 2-3 hours of initial intake and interview with parents/guardians, which will also include completion of intake forms and clinical/behavioural measures.

As part of the assessment, we will also ask for collateral information, when available, to be provided by an adult who knows your child well, outside of the family (e.g., Kindergarten or Daycare Teacher,  therapist, etc.). The entire assessment (including intake, interview, testing, scoring, review of documents, formulation, feedback, and consultation report) will take approx. 10-12 hours to complete.
